Question: Does the FDA Regulate Supplements?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate food supplements as long as they are marked as such. This includes health supplements and diet pills is the non-coverage list. So what does this mean? Well it means that the products have not been evaluated on whether they actually work for the illness they are marketed for. They also have not been evaluated for their safety. Buyer Beware.

This is 100% correct. I have a supplement company and it's not regulated like that. However, they are a little more strict than they were years ago after ephedra was found to have some harmful side effects. They do have a list of supplements called "GRAS" that means generally regarded as safe. I would also check to make sure that they are certified by an outside company to ensure overall quality. I made sure my manufacturer was certified to be the best of the best.

This is not particularly true in all cases... some supplements are "FDA Approved" and others are not. Read the markings carefully. Most new supplements (which is what people usually end up buying because of the marketing hype surrounding them) are NOT FDA Approved but in most cases the buyer does not need to beware - just be sure to read the ingredients as well as research what other people taking it online have reported.
